Emily Whitaker, PMHNP-BC, RN
I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. My guiding philosophy is that mental health is multi-dimensional, and that true healing comes out of an appreciation for our physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.
My passion is to help people thrive in their lives, which is why I emphasize a comprehensive and balanced approach that draws on the benefits of traditional treatments in combination with complementary and alternative practices.
I completed my graduate training at Columbia University in New York City, where I worked in some of the most diverse and complex mental health settings in the country.
During my years of training in fast paced healthcare settings, I observed the profound benefits that psychiatric medications and treatment can have for individuals. However, I also observed the limitations of singularly focusing on traditional treatments; rushed appointments, overprescribing of medications, and undervaluing the innate wisdom and strength that we each hold.
Interested in providing my patients with more sustainable and lasting mental health treatment, I began a journey into understanding other promising healing modalities. I have since completed post graduate training in mindfulness and compassion focused therapies, and continue to explore the role of movement, breath and nutrition in supporting the mind and body.
Wise Mind Integrative Psychiatry is born out of a a deep respect for the human experience and a commitment to helping people thrive in their lives.
